family house Stupava, 2001

Jurkovič Award 2001, Arch Award 2001, nomination Mies van der Rohe European Award 2001 CZ,

The house is an early example of the conceptual focus of J. Studený's work. The building is considered experimental, however, many call it timeless. This type of architecture also goes beyond the limitations of perfect minimalist cubes and reaches the limits of current technical and aesthetic possibilities. This realization shifted the perception of the Slovak architecture of family houses to the international level. For the construction, the authors (J. Studený and D. Kopecký) were awarded a number of domestic and international architectural awards and became a springboard for their successful realization of the national exhibition at the 2002 Biennial of Architecture in Venice.

The authors work with the contrast between the existing rural development and the natural environment of the site, enabling a broader interpretation of the development of the land. The house is built on an experimental basis in the use of building materials in both construction and cladding, the composition of individual spaces and the interior concept. It is a manifestation of the authors' technical abilities and courage to apply untested material and spatial solutions in construction practice. The house aroused international controversy and admiration, as many foreign curators considered it a ‘Central European bomb’ in the field of architecture. It became a milestone in the perception of the architecture of a family house in the Central European region, as evidenced by the number of awards (own page on Wikipedia ...), its inclusion in architectural monographs of this period and especially its impact on the architectural work of the younger generation.

family house Černošice, 2007

Piranesi Award 2008, Arch Award 2008, Grand Prix cat. family houses 2008 CZ, selection of the jury (shortlisted) Mies van der Rohe European Award 2009 EU

In the survey of the 100 best realized Czech works of architecture over the last 20 years, it won a leading position (7-10 place). It was awarded in the international context: as the only Czech-Slovak work so far, the Piranesi Award (2008), got into the selection of 40 works at the Mies van der Rohe European Award 2009 and received the highest recognition at the national level in the Czech Republic (Grand Prix in cat. family houses 2009).

The authors overturned the unfavorable conditions of the location (the house is located on a small sloping plot, without a view) to an advantage - the organic composition of its modular concept of orthogonal cells stacked to height, creating an atypical but clear spatial composition and allowing the interior to penetrate the exterior.

In the work, the authors managed to ‘preserve the inner integrity and originality of the relentless thinking of the author’. Their work is consistent and concentrated in its formal and content design, which is positively reflected in the pedagogical-teaching process of J. Studený. It is a manifestation of the ability to associate with the given data the stimuli for an exceptional concept of architecture.

family house Mníšek pod Brdy, 2014

Grand Prix in cat. family houses, 2014 CZ, nomination Mies van der Rohe European Award 2013 CZ, 1st prize House of the Year (Muj Dum CZ) 2018

The module in Mníšek pod Brdy is a combination of three attributes that have become significantly decisive for the existing architecture of family houses: the energy concept, the spatial-organizational scheme with a flexible layout and the material base of the building close to its surroundings.

The latest technologies of the construction industry and procedures were applied on the construction site, which had a significant resonance in the research work taking place in the school environment. During the construction and after its realisation, guided tours were held for the public and students of AFAD (Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava), AVU (Academy of Fine Arts in Prague) and other schools, in the presence of the author.

Dukla Sportovní – sports complex in Pardubice, project DBP (documentation for building permit) 2020 2nd prize in international competition

Dukla sports is the result of the authors' ability and readiness in a long-term effort to prepare and implement the largest and perhaps the most versatile sports complex in the Czech Republic in the last two decades. It includes 5 sports halls (multifunctional, athletic, basketball, gymnastics, training) with central facilities and a large number of outdoor sports fields. It is an example of the connection of top sports with community sports of the city's inhabitants, it contains all the relaxation and service facilities for its visitors. It makes the existing Dukla a new magnet of the city and shifts it to a national, even transnational significance in terms of sports equipment. The project is a continuation of the selection from the International Competition, where it won 2nd place. The work has a wide social response and its significance is of national interest.

The preparation of the Dukla sports project requires a strong ability to manage a wide team of experts and collaborators, lead them to a certain result and present it to the customer. The connection between the individual and the collective embodied in sports games has been transformed into an excellent result in the project.

These procedures are a good foundation of successful work in pedagogical-research practice, where J. Studený tries to apply them.

Registration of Stano Filko, Fait Gallery Brno, architectural concept for the exhibition

The content of the design is the spatial solution of the exhibition of Stano Filko´s register curated by Boris Ondreička in the Fait Gallery in Brno. Concept, method of installation, shape and material solution of individual installation elements and their location in space.

Filko's work is a series of exhibitions and their mutual installation forms a separate universe. I believe that this was the intention of his work - to create his own, all-embracing world, the center of which is himself, respectively. reproduced by him, a multiple reflection of reality. It contains a repetition of balloons and rockets, which are objects with the aura of invention, mirror mazes are objects of their own spatial equilibrium. The object of the registration is also a huge complex of objects and classical painting and sculptural works. The idea of registration is not to exhibit them as artistic objects, but to organize them into one's own spatial scheme forming an organized structure.

The concept is based on the principle of placing registration elements in a grid. They are arranged in individual "departments" on the basis of a curatorial structure, The guiding line of which is not the type, size and technique, but the content of Filko's work. Their purpose is to help him "read", which should be helped by the arrangement in the registration scheme in the form of archives.

Dukla Sportovní - sports complex in Pardubice, documentation for construction permit 2020, 2nd prize in international competition (2016)
Dukla Sportovní is one of the main city projects in this period. The centre consists of 4 halls (athletics, multifunctional hall, basketball hall and double field hall for gymnastics, handball and floorbal), reconstruction of the athletic stadium and multipurpose outdoor playgrounds. The main idea is to create the centre-point of the complex, a sport-yard to spread the social life.

Plateau at Staromestská Bratislava, architectural study, 2022

The Plateau concept consists in creating a connection with a continuous communication element, a link that will connect the Castle Hill on one side with the Old Town on the other side by a pedestrian connection along the entire length of the city walls. It is part of a new concept for the development and renewal of public urban spaces around the old town, the so-called ring and will become part of a circle of lively squares - newly defined public spaces where the whole city meets its center (Old Town). The Plateau heals the scar that was created in the 1960s by renovating a part of the Old Town by insensitively connecting the SNP bridge with today's Hodžov square, when the entire city districts were divided by the new Staromestska street, which unfortunately does not have the parameters of a city street and is only an expressway through

the center of the city. This situation has been undesirable for the city for decades, the Plateau concept is a proposal to change this situation. We propose to cover the entire length of the street with a continuous bridge at a height of approx. 4.7 m above the road. A new public space 230 m long and 25 m wide will be created on its surface, offering several pedestrian connections between the Židovská street and fenced paths of the city walls. We are placing new public programs and new natural and landscape elements on the Plateau, referring to the original landscape type of the castle moat. A new type of public space will be created for its users - residents of nearby houses and tourists, or residents of the wider city - passable (passages) and residential (program), artificial (construction) and natural (park), active (sport) and recreational (residence).

From non-architecture to architecture. 2022

If the center of our interest is architecture, we ask ourselves what it is and how to work towards it. One possibility is to reflect on its definition (see LC: L'architecture est le jeu magistral, correct et magnifique des masses réunions dans la lumière.), where I especially like the "artful and majestic" one... and to work with its content. By default, we look at the matter from the point of view of graduating skills, leading to a more complex and contemporary architecture. This is what makes us architects. However, the view from the other side can also be interesting. If we ask ourselves what architecture is, it is probably appropriate to ask what architecture is not - what is close to it, but is not yet architecture. In an uncertain time, when standard practices fail and new ones are not yet found, I suppose that exploring the possibility of how to get to architecture from non-architecture can lead us to original attitudes as architects.

Architectural models as examples, prototypes and development studies. 2020 - 22

The models are a project of a new architecture. The purpose of creating models (prototypes) is to create a basis for a universal solution to a specific situation. Creation of a template or procedure that is verified over time. So that it can be widely applied, developed and used as a basis in the next stage of development. So that the specific features of one solution can become general in their use. Its universality lies in the breadth of its application. It solves a specific problem in a certain characteristic way. For example context – relation to the terrain and surrounding buildings, connections of spaces and volumes depending on the structure, or other contexts – material and environmental. We focus on systemic solutions involving spatial relationships such as openness/closedness, continuity/separation, materiality/immateriality.
