2. - Graduate profile and learning objectives
a) - The institution defines the learning objectives of the study programme such as student's abilities at the time of completion of the programme and the main learning outcomes.

The main learning objective in the study plan is a creative process in the field of design. In presence, this field is defined by a broad spectrum of approaches and tendencies. That requires deep knowledge in the rapidly developing area of contemporary design, prototype and production technologies. Further, this field requires good communication, presentation and managing abilities. Very important part of the education is a general overview of history and theory of art and design, as well as other humanities. The education aims to comprehensively prepare a BA student for the profession of a designer in various specializations. In the framework of the study program design, the education is realized in the four specializations – industrial design, transport design, interior design and experimental design. The student acquires a basic overview about the individual specializations in the course of the first grade. Eventually, he/she can choose a particular specialization for the rest of his/her BA study, or attend consequently all the specializations, adhering to the compulsory requirements. Certain extend of knowledge, skills and competencies are common for all the specializations: independence in search, processing and critical reflection of information relevant for an assignment realization, independent research in a topic, formulation of a concept, ability to formulate ideas by means of drawing and digital designing methods, using 2D and 3D software, and by means of a basic virtual reality. The BA student is able to individually consider suitability of a proposed realization, in regard to ergonomics, economics, considers ethical principles of design production and its social function. The student is able to work with the basic visualizing tools, has command in drawing documentation, and is able to use both for communication with a potential partner – producer. He/she has a basic understanding of production technologies widely used in practice. He/she has a general knowledge in materials´ qualities and treatments by means of analogue and digital technologies, for realization of a model, prototype or product. The BA student is able to communicate outcomes of his/her work, giving arguments and using various media interfaces and types of software for his/her presentation. He/she has basic knowledge in the field of business enterprise and marketing, and in theory and history of art and design, philosophy and aesthetics. In the framework of the mentioned specializations, he/she acquires further skills in specialized studios and in connection to his/her selection of compulsory optional specialized and theoretical courses (please, refer to the study plan and courses information sheets). The student´s specialized professional skills are developed in the form of series of assignments, accentuating specificities of serial production, some of the being realized directly with a particular producer or institution. BA graduates are trained to communicate with a customer and pursue the profession of a designer in regard to possibilities and needs of a client. This is achieved in the practice of students´ team work, courses in specialized technologies focused on furniture design, courses in extended 3D modeling, animation and presentation software and virtual reality. In the process of the students´ training within the specializations, there are specialized workshops with lecturers from various fields of design practice and traineeship, offering valuable experience in practical aspects of the profession. The BA student can broaden his specialization by traineeship in specialized studios within the study program Design, as well as other study programs at AFAD. The BA graduate has necessary overview in all aspects of the designing process and is able to work for big and small companies, prototype and experimental studios, either as a member of creative teams, or as an independent designer – specialized or universal.

The main outcomes of the study:

Based on acquired knowledge, skills and competence, the BA graduate of the study program Design is able to work in a design team, realizing specialized partial assignments. He/she is able to analyze client´s assignments, respecting his production program, technological and economical possibilities, considering ecological and social aspects of the assignment. The graduate participates in the designing process, using analogue, advanced 2D and 3D visualizing software, or virtual reality. He/she has command of a model/prototype construction on an excellent level, analogue or digitally. He/she is able to communicate with engineering professions, using basic knowledge in relevant software and production technologies. He/she has a broad overview in materials, used in design practice, and their qualities. He/she is able to communicate the final solutions by means of appropriate presentation software in combination with verbal argumentation. c) - Evaluation of the study programme quality by employers (feedback).

We do not state any feedback here, since representatives of employers are members of the Accreditation Board AFAD.

4. - Structure and content of the study programme
a) - The institution describes the rules for the design of study plans within the study programme.

The study plan of the study program is prepared by the main appointed pedagogue of the study program, based on the common meetings with other appointed pedagogues of the particular study program and the rest of the pedagogues involved in the education of the particular study program. Representatives of students from the particular study program are also involved in the discussion. They communicate students' suggestions for the study plan, based on the study program pedagogues´ activities. The meetings also focus on the opinions of students collected in surveys of AFAD, referring to the BA study plan of Design.

The concept of the study plan is eventually presented by the main appointed pedagogue of Design to be evaluated by the Program Board AFAD, preceded by the vice-rector for Academic Affairs. Among the members of the Program Board AFAD, there is also a representative of the student section of the academia and an external specialist in design.

The main appointed pedagogue of the study program considers remarks and suggestions of the Program Board and eventually he/she passes the study plan within the overall description of the study program to further processes of the study program evaluation within the internal system of educational quality assurance at AFAD (detail information in the Internal evaluation report AFAD).

b) - The institution compiles the recommended study plans for individual study paths.

The profile courses in the study program Design have the character of Studio Courses. These are preceded by the compulsory course in the 1st-grade Preparatory Course in Design. The Preparatory Course prepares a student for the studio form of education and offers insight into specializations of design that are selected by the student from the 2nd grade. As for its content, requirements, and time consumption, the Studio Course has the most significant credit value. The Studio Course is divided into specializations, according to the areas of the designing: Studio Industrial Design, Studio Transport Design, Studio of Interior Design, and Studio of Experimental Design.

Additional to the profile courses, there are compulsory specialized courses that represent an essential and inevitable framework of knowledge, skills, and competencies for the student in this study program.

Detailed information in Study Plan.

Another compulsory part of the study plan is the compulsory historiographic course Visual Art in Cultural Context which prepares students in art history, philosophy, aesthetics, and culture. The historiographic courses are completed by an examination by the examination committee after the 4th semester to close the first phase of theoretical education in the BA study. In the second phase (3rd and 4th grades), they are followed up by the compulsory theoretical and interpretational courses Problems of Visual Media (Design) and Image Analysis (Design) that develop critical thinking in the studied medium and represent the profile basis. The profile courses in studio education and the profile theoretical courses in the medium provide a complex education in the creativity and theory of design within the education process. They lead to the defense of the BA thesis and the state examination as a completion of the BA degree.

The study program Design is completed by a group of compulsory optional courses, divided into specialized practical and specialized theoretical courses. These courses build a basis for further media specialization and deepen the interdisciplinary character of the study program, copying the broad scope of design as a discipline. The specialized courses reflect the focus of individual studio specializations therefore their prerequisites are linked to the particular studio course. In this group, there are also courses focused on language skills in the field of contemporary art and culture and in the field of soft skills. The courses in soft skills are planned in blocks and specialized workshops to reflect the up-to-datedness of information and knowledge used in practice.

In addition to the compulsory basis and compulsory optional courses, there are optional courses for students to get insight into other study programs in AFAD. They are enriched by a series of courses in form of workshops, excursions, or short-term courses that dynamically react to current issues in design and visual art; usually employing professionals from the artistic and cultural environments or foreign pedagogues in the process of the school internationalization.

The course Internship serves as a supplement for the studio education and so it must have a creative character. A student must realize assignments in design, works under the leadership of a professional as a tutor, and the requirements meet those in the Studio Course. Examples of companies where our students realized their internship: MMcité, OMS, Lasvit, Crafting Plastics!, Volkswagen AG, Audi AG, Mercedes Benz, Škoda Auto, etc.

Additional Internship has a character of an optional course, therefore, the creative character is not required. It can involve also organizational work or soft skills. Examples of institutions where our students realized their additional internship: Nová Cvernovka, Medium Gallery, Bratislava Design Week, etc.

The students are also encouraged to take part in mobility in form of scholarships at foreign partner schools where they are faced with education in a different cultural and social environment. At the same time, they confront their design outcomes in the international field and so they have an opportunity to become a part of international design and artistic networks.

Within a broader educational process, the students are integrated into ongoing design research projects at AFAD, either directly in the process of education, or in form of exhibitions, publications, and other presentations, facilitated by grant systems KEGA - Cultural and Educational Grant Agency Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic, FPU – Slovak Art Council).

The decisive evaluation tool of learning results is the periodical semester evaluation by a committee (the members of the committee are pedagogues of the study program, also pedagogues of the Department of Theory and History of Art, and external experts). This evaluation also includes a compulsory presentation of a student´s results from the Studio Course and a defense of the realization process and the outcome. This is followed by a discussion of the committee, present students, and external experts. The process is concluded by the evaluation of the committee and verification by the school committee consisting of the members of the Pedagogical Board AFAD. The results of the students´ semester works combine the partial results of profile course Studio with the results of other specialized and theoretical courses in a particular semester, or even in a previous semester of a particular study program. The results of the semester evaluations are discussed and analyzed with the AFAD management at the meetings for the Pedagogical Board AFAD where there are identified positive and negative aspects of the results of the educational process. The students´ results of the education are eventually publicly presented (the school exhibition in all AFAD buildings, other galleries and exhibition spaces, online presentations https://www.digitalnyprieskum.sk/ or AFAD Facebook, Instagram, or website https://www.vsvu.sk/sk/udalosti/QXenZJOx/digitalny-prieskum/. It creates a space for a broader critical discussion with the external environment about the results of education.

f) - The institution describes the rules for verification of learning outcomes, students assessment and the possibilities of appealing against the assessment.

The rules for verification of learning outcomes:

The decisive verification tool of learning results is the periodical semester evaluation by a committee (the members of the committee are pedagogues of the study program Design, also pedagogues of the Department of Theory and History of Art, and external experts). The school committee is presided over by the vice-rector for Academic Affairs and students are excluded from it. Each head of the Studio presents semester assignments, the process of education, and the results of students´ works. He/she characterizes and emphasizes remarkable students´ results and notes the poor students´ results, introducing individual evaluations by the committee (from A to FX). This is followed by a debate. The results of the students´ semester works in Studio Course combine the partial results of the profile course Studio with the results of other specialized and theoretical courses in a particular semester, or even in a previous semester of the study program Design. The students´ results of the learning process are eventually publicly presented (the school exhibition in all AFAD buildings, other galleries and exhibition spaces, online presentations https://www.digitalnyprieskum.sk/ or AFAD Facebook, Instagram, or website https://www.vsvu.sk/sk/udalosti/QXenZJOx/digitalny-prieskum/.

The students' assessments and the possibilities of appealing against the assessment are defined by the Study Regulations AFAD: https://www.vsvu.sk/sk/studium/informacie-pre-studentov/studijny-poriadok

The assessment of students´ results within the study course is mainly realized:

a) in the form of continuous monitoring of students´ results in individual courses during a particular part of the study (progress stages, partial assignments, participation in workshops, thematic workshops, written tests, individual assignments, semester works, presentations in seminars, etc.)

.

Evaluation by grades is classified according to the classification scale regulated by the decree nr. 614/2002 Z. z. with six classification grades on the scale:

A - excellent (excellent results) = 1

B - very good (above-average results) = 1,5

C - good (average results) = 2

D - satisfactory (acceptable results) = 2,5

E - sufficient (results fulfill minimum criteria) = 3

FX - insufficient (further work required) = 4

Within the study program Design, there are the following optional courses Short-term Course and Specialized Excursion evaluated as absolved/failed.

The student evaluated with the grade FX in specialized, practical, and theoretical courses is permitted two retakes, providing he/she has fulfilled the requirements of the evaluations so far. The student evaluated with FX in the Studio Creation and the Diploma thesis (consultations, realization) is permitted one retake, providing he/she has fulfilled the requirements of the evaluation so far. If a student needs to repeat any course, including the Studio Course and the Diploma thesis (consultations, realization), he/she is permitted one retake.

g) - Conditions for recognition of studies or a part of studies.

A student can apply for recognition of courses completed in other study programs at another university. Recognition of these courses is based on the summary of the student´s results, issued by the school providing the courses, and an application form (detailed instructions can be found in the form Application for Recognition of Qualification) must be submitted.

The requirements of the course recognition are defined in the Study Regulations AFAD: https://www.vsvu.sk/sk/studium/informacie-pre-studentov/studijny-poriadok/

List and characteristics of Design classrooms:

The profile course Studio Course and all the compulsory optional and optional specialized practical courses take place in studios and workshops of a total of 851 square meters. The studios and workshops are available for all BA students in Design for a face-to-face learning process (theoretical and practical teaching, consultations, and discussions of pedagogues and students) and indirect learning (individual work of a student on a semester assignment or final thesis). The workshops are used by students according to the character of their semester works or final theses, or for

assignments within specialized practical courses. Part of the studios and workshops infrastructure is storage rooms for materials.

Studio rooms: The profile course consisting of four studios is taught by four heads of studios together with four assistants. Each studio has one room assigned. Teaching in studios is organized vertically; students in Bachelor´s, Master´s, and doctoral levels meet in one space, one time. Depending on the number of students in a particular academic year, and a particular studio, it represents about 2 square meters of space per student. Basic projection facilities are the standard equipment of each studio (computer, projector, and wifi connection). Additional equipment depends on the specific requirements of each studio (inventory lists will be available for the accreditation committee by their personal visit to the school).

The studios are located in the AFAD building, Drotárska cesta 44.

Digital room: about 60 square meters. Specialized equipment of the digital room according to the inventory list (inventory lists will be available for the accreditation committee by their personal visit to the school).

Students are free to use also workshops of other AFAD study programs. The workshop rooms can be reserved by filling out a form, the time schedule is managed by a workshop supervisor. The workshop supervisor is responsible for the health protection and safety of the students. He/She also supervises manipulation with the equipment and material. The workshops serve for the realization of semester assignments and final theses of students, and for the practical teaching process of specialized courses.

Material: The school provides the essential material for the study program Fine Arts. The students are provided with paper, wood, plaster, clay, basic chemicals for the dark room, graphic printing, etc. Consumables for the realization of semester works or final theses are covered by the students themselves or by the school from grant and research projects.

The workshops are located in the AFAD buildings, Drotárska cesta 44, Koceľova 23).

Lecture and seminar rooms: 5 + 5 rooms - about 362 square meters in total. Each lecture room is equipped with technology corresponding to its character: computer, projector, projection screen, audio equipment, and wifi connection (inventory lists will be available for the accreditation committee by their personal visit to the school).

c) - Characteristics and extent of distance education applied in the study programme with the assignment to courses. Access, manuals of e-learning portals. Procedures for the transition from contact teaching to distance learning.

The form and process of study are defined in the Study Regulations AFAD (Article 3, Forms and Methods of Study, (5 - 8).

As standard, AFAD uses a combined system of teaching, defined in ILP (Course Information Sheets), including the case of distance teaching only. Any change in the teaching procedure is discussed beforehand with the main pedagogue of a study program and then with the vice-rector for Academic Affairs, usually in the period of May - June of a previous academic year, in the process of control of individual ILPs for a following academic year). Exclusively distance teaching is applied by the order of the AFAD rector, particularly in cases such as a state of emergency.

d) - Institution partners in providing educational activities for the study programme and the characteristics of their participation.

The study program is defined as an academic-oriented and artistic. AFAD has a system of traineeships and supplementary traineeships in cooperation with various types of institutions and companies in the domestic and external international environment. Alongside permanent partners, cooperation with new partners is being processed. Procedures are published on the school website and in the study guide (BEDEKER). At the same time, external companies and institutions participated directly in the process of education. They come with assignments for the students of the study program Design to acquire valuable experience directly in practice.

Examples of the external companies and institutions participating in education in various forms and extend: EGOÉ, SWN Moravia, Berndorf Sandrik, Plastia, MMcité, OMS, Kodreta, Rona, ÚĽUV, SAV, Studio 21, Tuli, Ton, Edulab, Wurth, Crafting Plastics!, Audi AG, Volkswagen AG, Local Motors, Škoda Design, Gravity Sketch, Bratislava Design Week etc.

e) - Characteristics of the possibilities for social, sports, cultural, spiritual and social activities.

Social-cultural events of AFAD are organized in the space of the galleries Medium and HIT and other public spaces of the school. The gallery spaces are mainly used for exhibitions of the AFAD students and pedagogues. At the same time, they serve as a communication platform for public lectures, discussions, and for other social events of the school pedagogues, students, employees, and graduates. Through their open-call scheme, the galleries present exhibition projects of our partners from abroad and the results of our international cooperation. Among the periodically presented international cooperation projects, there is the festival Šperk stret, Poster Triennial Trnava, White Night, etc.). Further, there is the Teaching Center for Communication and Visualization Kremnica for workshops and block teaching. It provides accommodation facilities, conference rooms, and digital and material equipment. The Center is intensively used for workshops, conferences, seminars, and meetings with international partner institutions; it enhances internationalization, interaction, and common creative activities. Thanks to its favorable geographical location, it is used all year long for sports activities as an accompanying program to the main program.

f) - Possibilities and conditions for participation of the study programme students in mobilities and internships (indicating contact details), application instructions, rules for recognition of this education.

The students of Design can widely participate in the mobility programs Erasmus+ (projects KA 103 and KA107), CEEPUS, programs based on bilateral agreements, and the National Scholarship Program mobility for students, pedagogical and non-pedagogical staff. Alongside the standard mobility, students also participate in other artistic-research projects, creating international platforms with particular international partners of AFAD and cooperating in particular artistic, exhibition, presentation, research, and innovative projects. To facilitate mobility in the study program Design, intended for international experience, AFAD has established a broad network of partnerships in most EU countries, other European countries (the countries of Western Balkan, Ukraine, Georgia), Asia (China, Japan, India, Israel, Turkey) and America (USA, Mexico). The students of Design will also have the opportunity to participate in a number of international workshops, lectures, seminars, courses, and meetings with guest pedagogues from abroad. There is also an opportunity of the same significance for the students to pursue part of their study by a guest pedagogue within their primary study course. Foreign students studying at AFAD within the Erasmus + program will contribute to the development of contacts and future cooperation. The students of Design will be able to take advantage of the AFAD membership in international networks (Cumulus, ELIA). International students´ presentation activities are also supported by Slovak representative bodies and cultural institutes abroad. Besides scholarships, artistic/research, and presentation projects, the students will have an opportunity to apply for traineeships and internships in particular foreign institutions, companies, and specialized studios within the Erasmus + program.

All the possibilities, instructions, and regulations are published in detail on the AFAD website, where they are regularly updated. They are also defined in the Internal Regulation AFAD - rector´s directive: Erasmus Policy Statement Academy of Fine Arts and Design, Bratislava.

9. - Required abilities and admission requirements for the study programme applicants
a) - Required abilities and necessary admission requirements.

The abilities of each applicant to the study program Design are evaluated on the basis of their portfolio prepared at home, indicating their focus on a particular specialization in design, their determination in art, and their skills in the visualization of their ideas. The Department of Design prefers individuality in the artistic approach, reflecting the individuality of an author. In the next stage of the entrance examination, the applicants are assigned tasks from all specializations of the study program. The assignments test ability of the applicants to master formal criteria, such as the quality of drawing and its expressive features, composition, clarity in model execution, and working with materials. Further, there is evaluated rational problem solving, technical thinking, and basics in geometry and physics, all crucial preconditions in design thinking. Other criteria are attention to the emotional character of design, its context, work with symbols and signs, aesthetic feeling, work with visual means of expression, and courage to experiment and unconventional thinking. An interview offers a space for the applicant to demonstrate his/her knowledge of contemporary design, present his/her portfolio and prove his/her communication and presentation abilities.
