The joint study programme is not existent.
The main learning objective in the study programme is to create in the field of visual communication and graphic design, which includes a wide range of knowledge in the field of theory and history of art and design, design thinking, analytical and critical thinking, and skills in proposing design concepts, their prototyping, implementation and preparation for production. Learning includes the acquisition of soft skills in communication, management and presentation.
The learning objectivei s a graduate´s comprehensive competence to perform the profession of a graphic designer in various specializations. Within the study programme of Visual Communication, teaching is carried out in four specializations - visual identity, typography and type design, multimedia and visual communication in space. The student acquires a basic understanding of the nature of each specialization in the first and second year, during which he/she completes one semester in each specialization. He/she can then choose a particular specialization for the rest of the undergraduate studies or undergo all specialisations during the undergraduate study adhering to compulsory prerequisites. All specializations require a certain amount of knowledge, skills and competences: i.e. independent search, processing and critical evaluation of information necessary for elaborating the assignment, own research of the problem, formulation of the concept, ability to express ideas through drawing but also digital design methods using 2D and 3D software, basics of UX (user experience) and UI (user interface) design and basics of augmented and virtual reality.
The student is able to evaluate independently the adequacy of the proposed solution in terms of communication, aesthetics, ecology, ethical principles and social value. The student harnesses advanced imaging tools and digital outputs through which he/she communicates his/her designs to a potential client-partner. He/she understands the production fundamentals and prototyping technologies used in practice. The student is well versed in the material types and properties and their technological processing used in the production of tangible forms of the final products of graphic design and visual communication. For digital forms, the outcome defines the types and properties of digital formats used in digital and online environments. The student is able to communicate, argue and present the outcome of his/her work appropriately using a variety of media interfaces and presentation software.
He/she has a basic knowledge of business and marketing and a general knowledge of the theory and history of art and design, philosophy and aesthetics. In the framework of the above mentioned specialisations, he/she acquires additional skills directly in specialised studios in connection with a selection of compulsory optional professional and theoretical courses. (we refer to the curriculum and Course Information Sheets)
The graduates develop their specialised professional skills e.g. : via a set of assignments from real clients-institutions with an emphasis on the real use of design in a real environment. The undergraduates are prepared to communicate with a client and design practice with respect to the capabilities and needs of the client. The implementation of teamwork among students; teaching specialized software aimed at the creation of multimedia applications, type design, animation, design of 2D and 3D environments, augmented and virtual reality and teaching how to work with production and prototyping digital devices also help develop the undergraduates´ professional skills.
In order to be prepared within the specializations, students can attend professional workshops with lecturers from various areas of design practice and work placements, which are an invaluable tool for direct contact between students and practice. Students can further complement their specialisation with internships in specialised studios within the Visual Communication study programme, as well as within other study programmes implemented at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. After completion of study, the undergraduates have the necessary awareness of all components of the design process and are employable in the environment of large and small graphic studios, advertising agencies, in-house graphic departments of companies and institutions as part of a creative team, they are able to set up their own graphic studio, or can work as independent designers - freelancers either in a highly specialized or universal position.
Main learning outcomes:
The graduate is able to create a design work such as the design of a font, a book, the visual identity of a product or an event, visual communication in space, UX and UI, multimedia applications, or create an animation, in the context of the current requirements for the design of visual communication, either independently or as a member of a creative team.
He/she masters methodical and creative procedures in type design, typography, graphic design of books, magazines, comic books and other print or electronic media, content and visual concepts of visual identity and communication strategies, visual communication in space, information, navigation and other communication systems for both physical and virtual environments, animation and multimedia projects.
The graduate is able to analyse the client's assignment and propose a solution, which follows the client's intention, respects technological and economic possibilities, a solution, which is in a broader context in line with the social, societal and urban aspects.
He/she has a basic knowledge of current findings in the field of visual literacy, design thinking and visual communication trends. He/she masters a wide range of materials and technologies used in production. At the same time, he/she is capable of professional dialogue with other professions in the field of printing, computer science and production.
The graduate is able to communicate his/her design outcome using appropriate presentation software in combination with verbal expression emphasising argumentative competence. He/she has a general knowledge of the history and current events within the field of study, as well as art and culture, and is able to continue further in his/her education and respond flexibly to dynamic changes not only in society but also in the development of technology and new materials.
The graduate meets requirements to be employed in design and cultural practice in domestic and foreign environments in private sectors, public organizations and institutions. He/she can work independently or as a member of design or interdisciplinary teams (with overlap into other fields of art, e.g. architecture, visual arts, film), in creative production within the creative industry, as an expert in cultural institutions (galleries, museums, theatres, cultural and creative centres).
Graduates are employable in graphic studios and agencies specializing in advertising design, creation of advertising campaigns and marketing, creation of visual identity (corporate identity and event branding), in publishing teams of print and electronic media, multimedia companies specializing in the creation of computer games and motion design. They can cooperate with architects and create design of communication systems for interior and exterior spaces, work as web designers, design communication materials for state and public administration offices, educational institutions, private companies, work as graphic designers creating book design for various publishing houses, as comic book creators, design packaging design for products in small and large series production, or work as freelance authors.
Visual Communication program of study is not a program requiring the requirements of a regulated profession.
AFAD has prepared a system structure according to which it will accumulate and monitor data and evaluation reports on the employability of future undergraduates:
a. Questionnaire for graduates (focused on work in the field, area, form). The questionnaire is created and monitored by the AFAD Academic Senate in the cooperation with the AFAD Support and Counselling Centre.
b. Visibility monitoring (exhibitions, reviews, professional and public media of undergraduates but also students). (Monitored by the Quality Office.)
c. Statistical information from employment offices. (Monitored by the Quality Office.)
d. Information from relevant institutions and external experts (e.g. Slovak Design Centre, Slovak National Gallery, design studios (Milk, Komplot, Pergamen... ), advertising agencies (Vaculik, Marc BBDO, MUW, WLB...) and other cultural institutions such as Nová Cvernovka or competitions such as the National Design Award, the Trnava Poster Triennial, etc. (Monitored by the Quality Office.)
e. Discussions with undergraduates (Monitored by the Quality Office.)
f. Monitoring of graduate activities. (Monitored by the Quality Office.)
If requested, AFAD will provide the evaluators with successful graduates´outcomes which AFAD regularly monitors through media monitoring (TASR) and through its own monitoring carried out by the AFAD Quality Office.

Since graduates have a self-employed practise, they set up their own graphic studios or agencies, they work as contract-employees for publishing houses, galleries, museums and other institutions or entities from the business sector - the feedback from the employer is irrelevant. The AFAD Accreditation Board includes a representative from the professional organisation Slovak Design Centre as well as representatives of gallery institutions.
The curriculum of the study programme is elaborated by a teacher responsible for the study programme on the basis of joint working meetings with other teachers involved in the teaching of the study programme. The working meetings also include student representatives of the study programme, who propose students´ suggestions on curriculum, stemming from the teachers´ activity involved in the study programme or the students' opinions from the AFAD questionnaire concerning the curriculum for undergraduate study are evaluated at the meeting too.
The curriculum proposal is then submitted for discussion by the main responsible teacher of the Visual Communication study programme to the AFAD Programme Board, chaired by the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs. The AFAD Programme Board also includes a representative of the student part of the academic community and an expert from the external environment from the field of visual art.The main responsible teacher for the study programme will consider incorporating the suggestions of the Programme Board and subsequently submit the curriculum as part of the study programme description for further study programme approval processes within the internal system of ensuring the quality of education at AFAD. (Detailed information is provided in the AFAD Internal Evaluation Report)
In the Visual Communication study programme, students complete the first four semesters in the so-called preparatory courses - Preparatory Course Typo; Preparatory Course Identity; Preparatory Course Multimedia; Preparatory Course Space. They then continue in profile courses of a specific nature and focus on the Studio Teaching. The teaching in Preparatory Courses and Studios is one of the most important credit given parts of the study programme in terms of its content, difficulty of outcomes and time allocation. Studio teaching is divided into specialisations according to the media specification: Typography and Type Design; Visual Identity; Visual Communication in Space; Multimedia.
A compulsory component of the profile courses of the study programme is a set of compulsory professional courses, whose content forms the basic and necessary framework of knowledge, skills and competences that the undergraduate of the study programme should master.
For more detailed information see. in the table below: Curriculum.
A compulsory component of the curriculum, in addition to Studio Teaching and compulsory professional courses, are the compulsory historiography courses Visual Arts in Cultural Context, which prepare students in the field of art history, philosophy, aesthetics and culture. The historiographical courses are completed with a committee examination after the 4th semester, thus concluding the first phase of the theoretical knowledge of the undergraduate study. In the second phase (3rd-4th year), they are followed by theoretical and interpretative compulsory courses developing critical thinking in the studied medium, Issues in Visual Media (Visual Communication) and Image Analysis (Visual Communication), which also make the profile foundation.
Profile studio courses and profile theoretical courses in the medium bring comprehensive education in creativity and design theory within the educational process. The profile courses Studio Teaching and theoretical courses for the medium of visual communication lead to the defence of the Bachelor's thesis and the state examination with the completion of the given degree.
The Visual Communication study programme includes a group of compulsory optional courses, which are divided into professional practical and professional theoretical courses. These courses provide the basis for a media specialisation and at the same time deepen the interdisciplinarity within the scope of the sphere of visual communication design, art and culture. The content also includes courses that improve language training in the field of contemporary visual communication design, arts and culture and in soft skills such as the fundamentals of marketing in the arts and basic grant-making skills. Teaching of soft skills is also planned in the form of block teaching and professional workshops to keep the information and knowledge up to date with practice. Elective courses complete the compulsory core and compulsory optional courses, and through them students have the opportunity to transfer to other study programmes at AFAD. The elective courses are enriched by a number of courses, which through workshops, courses, excursions and short-term education, respond dynamically to current topics in design and visual arts by using renowned experts from the artistic and cultural environment, or within the framework of the school's internationalisation with foreign teachers and practitioners.

The Visual Communication study programme offers a possibility of work placement and additional work placement in the domestic and foreign market, which in the framework of education bring students in direct contact with the professional environment in which they acquire practical experience and skills. The work placement is at the same time an opportunity for the student to gain new professional contacts and connections as well as theoretical experience with increased employability after graduation.
At the same time, students are encouraged to participate in foreign mobility through study programs at foreign partner schools, where they are positively confronted with educational experience in a different cultural and social environment. Here they also confront their artistic outputs in an international field and have the opportunity to become part of international design, artistic and cultural networks.
As part of the broader educational process undergraduate students are integrated into ongoing design-research or art-research projects at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, and it realized either in the form of direct application in teaching or through exhibitions, publications and other presentation activities, which are also facilitated by grant systems (especially KEGA - the Cultural and Educational Grant Agency of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Slovak Republic) and the presentation of creative-artistic activities (especially FPU - the Fund for the Promotion of Art).

The decisive evaluation tool of the educational results is the continuous semester assessment at the committee level (the committee consists of the teachers of the study programme, teachers from the Department of Theory and History of Art and is extended by experts from the external environment). This includes a mandatory presentation of the student's studio teaching result and its defence, followed by a discussion of the committee and all participating students and practitioners. Subsequently, there is an evaluation by the committee and verification by a whole-school committee composed of members of the Pedagogical Board of AFAD. The result of the semestral works of individual students of the Studio Teaching includes the partial results combined not only from the profile course Studio Teaching, but also from the professional and theoretical courses in the given semester or in the previous semester of the given study programme. The summaries of the semester evaluation are discussed and analysed at the meetings of the Pedagogical Board of AFAD with the AFAD Management, where the positives as well as the negatives of the result setting of the teaching process are identified. At the end, the students´ results are publicly accessible to the professional and lay public (the whole-school exhibition in all AFAD buildings, other gallery and exhibition spaces, or online presentations https://www.digitalnyprieskum.sk/ or Facebook, Instagram and the AFAD website https://www.vsvu.sk/sk/udalosti/QXenZJOx/digitalny-prieskum/). This creates a space for a wider confrontation of academic achievements with the external environment.

Stated in the enclosure – table of the curriculum from the Handbook;
Students of the Visual Communication study programme have their studies divided into two parts. They complete the first 4 semesters in preparatory courses, in which they are given creative tasks to acquire skills and knowledge in 4 specialisations in Visual Communication Design offered by the Visual Communication study programme: Typography and Type Design - Preparatory Course Typo; Visual Identity - Preparatory Course Identity; Multimedia - Preparatory Course Multimedia; Visual Communication in Space - Preparatory Course Space. For each preparatory course they have one semester to take. The order of completion of each preparatory course is determined by the curriculum.
Students complete the following 4 semesters in the studio in one of 4 specialized studios (Studio Typo, Studio Identity, Studio Multimedia, Studio Space) of their choice. This part of the studio is aimed at further refinement and development of creative and conceptual thinking in the given specialization, using the skills acquired from previous preparatory courses.
The student has the opportunity to complete semesters in a variety of studios, not only in one specialization. The student can compose his/her own combination of specializations. The Bachelor's thesis is completed in the studio of the student's choice; the prerequisite is the prior completion of at least one semester in the given studio.

Rules for verification of learning outcomes:
The decisive verification tool of the educational results is the continuous semester assessment at the committee level (the committee consists of teachers of the Visual Communication study programme, teachers from the Department of Theory and History of Art and is extended by experts from the external environment). This includes a compulsory presentation of the student's result from the Studio Teaching and its defence, followed by a discussion between the committee and all participating students and the professional public. Subsequently, the evaluation is carried out by the committee and verification by a whole-school committee composed of members of the AFAD Pedagogical Board. The whole-school committee is headed by the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and takes place without the participation of students. The whole-school Committee will be informed by each Head of a Specialised Studio who will introduce the semestral assignments, the course of teaching and the outcomes of the students' work, highlighting the students' outstanding achievements and drawing attention to the students' poor achievements, and he/she will also present the individual grades of the Committee (from A to FX).
The presentation of the teaching results of the specialised Studio Teaching, is followed by a professional discussion. The result of the semestral works of individual students of Studio Teaching includes partial results of education, which are combined not only with the results from the profile course of the specialized Studio, but also with the results from the professional and theoretical courses in the given semester, or in the previous semester of the study programme Visual Communication.
At the end, the outcomes of the students' education are publicly accessible to the professional and general public (the whole-school exhibition in all AFAD premises, other gallery and exhibition spaces, or online presentations https://www.digitalnyprieskum.sk/ or Facebook, Instagram and AFAD website https://www.vsvu.sk/sk/udalosti/QXenZJOx/digitalny-prieskum/).
The assessment of study achievements and the possibilities of corrective procedures are determined by the AFAD Study Regulations:
The assessment of the student's study achievements within the course study is conducted mainly:
a) by continuous control of the learning results in individual courses during the teaching part of the study (e.g. the state of work in progress, partial assignments, completion of a creative workshop, workshop, written tests, assignments for independent work, term papers, seminar report, etc.), specified in more detail in the CIS (Course Information Sheet),
The grade is classified according to the classification scale determined by Decree No 614/2002 Coll., where the qualification scale has six classification levels
A – excellent (excellent achievements) – 1
B – very good (excellent achievements) – 1.5
C – good (average achievements) – 2
D – satisfactory (satisfactory achievements) – 2.5
E – sufficient (achievements meet minimum criteria) – 3
FX – unsatisfactory (achievements do not meet minimum criteria) – 4
Within the Design study programme, elective courses such as the Short- Term Learning Course and the Specified Excursion are assessed in the form of course completion (pass/fail).
A student who has been assessed with a grade of FX in professional , practical and theoretical courses is entitled to have two retakes as long as they meet the requirements of the continuous assessment. If a student has been assessed with a grade of FX in Studio Teaching and Bachelor's Thesis (consultations, elaboration) and has fulfilled the conditions of the interim assessment, he/she is entitled to one retake. If a student re-enrolls in any course, including Studio Teaching and Bachelor´s Thesis (consultations, elaboration), the student is entitled to only one retake.
A student may apply for recognition of courses taken in another study programme at another university. Courses taken at another university are recognised by AFAD on the basis of the student's transcript of the study results issued by the university and by submitting an AFAD application form (the exact instructions are stated in the Application for Recognition of Courses form).

List and characteristics of the classrooms of the Visual Communication study programme:
The profile course Studio Teaching and all compulsory optional and elective courses with the characteristics of practical vocational courses take place in studios and workshops in a total area of 382 m2. The studios and workshops are available to all students of the Bachelor's degree programme in Visual Arts for direct teaching (theoretical and practical teaching, consultations and discussions of the teacher with students) and also indirect teaching (individual work of the student on a term assignment or their final thesis). The workshops are used by the students according to the needs of their semestral assignment or final thesis, or assignments in professional practical courses. Material storage rooms are also an infrastructural part of the studios and workshops.
Studios (rooms): a profile course composed of 4 studios taught by 4 heads of studios together with 4 instructors/ assistant professors. One room is allocated to each studio. The studio teaching is conducted in a vertical scheme where students of Bachelor´s, Master´s and PhD level meet in the same space and time. Depending on the current number of students in a given academic year and the specialisation in the Studio, approximately 5.5 m2 of space is allocated to one student. The standard equipment of the studio includes basic projection equipment (computer and data projector/TV + Wi-Fi connection. Other equipment for the Studios depends on its specific needs (inventory lists will be available and prepared to be reviewed by the Accreditation Committee during a physical visit of the school).
Studios are located in the building on 44 Drotárská cesta.
Digital classroom: approx. 60 m2. The digital classroom has the appropriate technological equipment (inventory lists will be available and prepared to be reviewed by the Accreditation Committee during a physical visit of the school).
Digital classroom is located in the building on 44 Drotárská cesta
Workshops and laboratories (rooms): the workshop-laboratory has a hand tool, cutting plotter, SRA3 colour printer, 3D printers, 3D pens, laser cutter and CNC milling machine. Students also have the opportunity to use workshops connected to other degree programs. Students send their application to reserve their time to work in the workshop under the guidance of a workshop staff member in charge. During the allocated time, students may work on their semestral assignments and final works. The workshop staff member is also responsible for the health and safety of the students and also acts as a supervisor in the operation and use of technical and technological equipment and consumables. The workshops are intended for the realization of semestral and final works and also serve for the teaching of practical vocational courses.
Material resources: the school provides the basic material resources for the Visual Arts study programme. Students are provided with paper, filaments, polystyrene, comatex, plexiglass, electronic components (diodes, microcontrollers) and other materials. Consumables needed for the semestral work or the final thesis are paid for by the student from his/her own resources or by the school from grants and research projects.

The form and method of study is defined in the AFAD Study Regulations (Article 3, Forms and Methods of Study, points 5 to 8).
At AFAD, the combined method of teaching is mostly used, which is stated in the CIS (Course Information Sheets), even if the teaching is done completely in the form of distance learning. When a teaching method of the course is changed, it is discussed in advance with the study programme guarantor and subsequently with the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at a predetermined time (usually May-June of the previous academic year when the study plan and the content of the individual CIS for the next academic year are reviewed). Complete distance learning at AFAD is realized by order of the Rector, especially in emergency situations (e.g. when a state of emergency is declared).
The given study programme is defined as an academically oriented, artistic type of study, but at the same time AFAD has established a mechanism of work placements and complementary work placements, where it cooperates with various types of institutions and companies in the domestic and foreign external environment. In addition to the permanent partners, cooperation with other partners is currently being approved. The procedures are published on the school's website and study guide (Bedeker).
https://www.vsvu.sk/sk/studium/organizacia-studia/pracovne-staze/?v=8X0Q4WO0
https://www.vsvu.sk/sk/studium/informacie-pre-studentov/bedeker-standard/?v=8X0Q4WO0
Cultural-social events on the AFAD grounds are held in the Medium and HIT Gallery and in the public external school premises. The gallery premises are primarily used for exhibition activities of students and teachers, they also serve as a communication space for organizing various types of lectures and discussions, which are also open to the general public, or other social activities of teachers, students, staff, as well as alumni of the school. As part of the open-call mechanism, the school's gallery premises also present the exhibition projects of our partners from abroad or the results of our international cooperation. Within the framework of international cooperation, projects of international significance are periodically prepared (for example, the Month of Photography.)
Another important AFAD facility is the Communication and Visualization Training Centre in Kremnica, which is used for the school for creative workshops and a block teaching process. The Training Centre has accommodation facilities, lecture rooms, digital technology equipment and material facilities. The facility is used extensively for workshops, conferences, seminars and meetings also with foreign partner educational institutions and promotes internationalisation, interaction and joint concentrated creative activity. Due to its advantageous geographical location, the teaching centre is used for year-round outdoor sports activities as part of creative residencies.
Students of the Visual Communication study programme can mainly benefit from Erasmus+ mobility (projects KA103 and KA107), CEEPUS, programmes based on bilateral agreements and opportunities of National Scholarship Programme focused on a student, teaching and non-teaching mobility. In addition to the standard mobility programs, students also participate in other artistic and research projects, in which AFAD creates joint international platforms with selected foreign partners and collaborates on specific artistic, exhibition, presentation, research and innovation tasks and projects. In order to carry out the mobility in the Visual Communication study programme and to gain international experience, AFAD has established a wide network of partnerships in most of the European Union countries, non-EU partner countries in Europe (Western Balkan countries, Ukraine, Georgia), Asia (China, Japan, India, Israel, Turkey) and America (USA, Mexico). Students of the Visual Communication programme will also have the opportunity to benefit from a number of international workshops, lectures, seminars, training courses and meetings with visiting foreign teachers at our school.
Equally important is the opportunity to complete part of the study with a visiting lecturer from abroad as part of the primary teaching. Foreign students in our country, who come mainly under the Erasmus+ programme, will contribute to building contacts and opportunities for future collaborations for our students. Students of the Visual Communication study programme will have the opportunity to benefit from the activities of major international networks of which the Academy of Fine Arts and Design is a part (Cumulus, ELIA) of. International presentation activities of students are also supported by the embassies of the Slovak Republic and cultural institutes of the Slovak Republic abroad. In addition to study placements, artistic-research and presentation activities, students of the Visual Communication study programme will have the opportunity to take advantage of student and graduate internships in selected foreign institutions, companies and specialized studios and studios within the Erasmus+ programme.
All options, guidelines and rules are made available and updated in detail on the school's website and are also anchored in the internal regulations of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava - Rector's Directive: Implementation of the ERASMUS+ Programme at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava

(Forms for individual study plan and mobility recognition are available to students in AiS.)
The applicant has a general knowledge of culture and society. He/she has an interest and a deeper level of knowledge in the Visual Communication degree programme. He/she is familiar with current developments in visual communication design and has the ability to critically evaluate them and express his/her opinion. He/she able to transpose textual or content information into visual language. He/she familiar with the basic media tools of visual communication and its specialisations. He/she possesses good communication skills and displays a sufficient degree of empathy in working with people and in work as part of a wider creative team.
The admissions for the Bachelor's degree programs last three days and are divided into two rounds. To participate in the first round, the applicant uploads in digital format to the school's repository (https://ulozisko.vsvu.sk) an application form, a CV, a motivational video and his/her portfolio (consisting of his/her own work and compulsory assignments, which are updated on the school's website for the Visual Communication study programme). Then, according to the academic calendar, an Admission Committee appointed by the Rector will meet. The Committee is composed of the teachers in charge of the study programme with the artistic-pedagogical titles of professor, associate professor or assistant professor.
A member of the admission committee may also be a university teacher teaching in another study programme at AFAD. The Admission Committee evaluates the home assignments - the applicant's portfolio and each member rates it on a six-point scale (0-5 points). The condition for advancement to the second round is to obtain at least 50% of the maximum possible number of points from the first round. Depending on the situation (e.g. a small number of applicants), the Commission may raise the threshold for advancement to 45% of the points obtained. Candidates who progress to the second round of the entrance examination are informed and the results published on the school's website no later than 30 days after the first round. At the same time, advancing candidates are sent an invitation to the second round of admission interviews.
The second round is conducted in person and lasts two days. Applicants work on practical assignments that respond to the focus and specialisations of the study programme in order to test their suitability for the Visual Communication study programme and their ability to respond to a variety of assignments in a short time. The Committee also assesses the degree of talent of the applicant and his/her ability to master the Bachelor's degree programme. An important part of the second-round admissions procedure is the interview of the applicant before the evaluation committee, which is designed to test general cultural and social insights, an overview of events in the chosen programme of study and communication skills. The candidate is admitted transparently in front of the whole committee and the oral interview ensures an inclusive admission procedure.
The results of the admissions are discussed at the Rector's Collegium and recorded in the minutes. The criteria and requirements for applicants are published on the school's website and updated annually. Updates to the criteria and requirements are also related to developments in visual communication, opportunities and curriculum development, and the development of certain technical or technological skills.
